Foods that are most likely to have listeria in them are:
- Uncooked Meats
- Eggs (listeria was once found in boiled eggs)
- Unpasteurized Milk
- Soft Cheeses
- Cream Cheese
- Other animal products, including manure
Listeria has also been found in
cantaloupe, tomatoes, and other fresh food. Some outbreaks of listeria in cantaloupes may have been caused by
un-aged cow manure, which was used to fertilize the cantaloupes. You can also catch listeria from fresh food because you
don't cook them, which would kill the bacteria, but merely
wash them and then eat it.
